Join Our Weaving Community
One could spend a lifetime exploring cloth and textile design, only to learn that they are just getting started – The Jane Stafford School of Weaving is here to guide and support weavers of all stripes in every aspect of that journey.
We strive to inspire weavers to design and create the best possible cloth they can – to care about graphic, colour, hand, and drape – from beginners wondering where on earth to start, to experienced production weavers searching for new horizons.
Now in its 10th season, the School of Weaving continues to thrive and grow in community, spirit, and number of projects woven around the world.

Season 1: Weaving Fundamentals
We cover warping, dressing the loom, sett, project planning, different types of looms, yarns (we look at how to work with “difficult" yarns like mohair), wrapped up with the basics of finishing techniques to bring your project into being a finely finished piece.
Season 2: Colour & Design
An introduction to colour theory, design concepts (graphic design, division of space), and how to apply those ideas in weaving.
Season 3: Pushing the Boundaries of Plain Weave
We explore denting, cramming and denting, weft faced, warp faced, double weave, collapse weave and supplementary warp. All of these ideas are laid down on top of what we learned in Season 2 Colour & Design.
Season 4: Twills on 4 shafts
In this season we dive into the world of twill structure and overlay it with everything we learned in the previous episodes, Colour & Design and Pushing the Boundaries of Plain Weave. This strong foundation will allow us to take 4 shaft Twills to a new level.
Season 5: Laces
We look at the exciting world of lace structures: Canvas Weave, Huck, Bronson lace, Atwater Bronson Lace, blended lace, and combinations with twill.
Season 6: Units, Blocks and Profiles
We learn about weave structures that use units - such as Monk’s Belt, Overshot, Crackle, Summer & Winter - and how to break designs into blocks or “profiles.”
Season 7: Colour & Weave + Texture Overlay
Now we build on all previous years with special emphasis on the Colour and Weave gamp we did in Season 2 Episode 4. We take those colour and weave sequences and overlay them onto units and blocks for Overshot, Crackle, Halvdrall, Turned Taquette, Summer & Winter, M’s & O’s and Monk’s Belt. We also start the season with one more 8-shaft Turned Twill with colour & weave.
Season 8: Advanced Double Weave and Structure
We delve further into M’s & O’s and Huck, the Powell method of drafting Shadow Weave, a great introduction to Deflected Double Weave, Block Double Weave, and Double Faced Twills on 4 and 8 shafts for most episodes. We’ll be doubling our fun by looking at structures on 4 shafts and taking them to 8 shafts.
Season 9: So Many More Places To Go
We double down on Double Weave, and we’ll take our first look at Diversified Plain Weave and continue on with Deflected Double Weave. Each episode will have tutorials and projects for both 4 and 8 shafts and we’ll continue to overlay new ideas, new concepts, new graphics and new use of colour onto our fabric.
Season 10 - Thick and Thin
The first episodes are now available, and the rest we'll be filming throughout 2026. We have an exciting line-up exploring the dynamic cloth we can weave using thick and thin yarn, allowing for texture, shrinkage and play with all sorts of weave structures. We'll be looking at honeycomb, cannele, more diversified plain weave and deflected double weave and more!
